Vitamin B12 Access Project

B12 is not optional. Itโ€™s essential.

Vitamin B12 is crucial for everyone โ€” especially for those who follow a plant-based or vegan diet.
It helps maintain healthy nerves, red blood cells, and brain function. Without enough B12, we risk fatigue, nerve damage, depression, and long-term health issues.

๐Ÿ”น Why B12 Matters for Vegans

  • B12 is not made by animals or plants. Itโ€™s made by bacteria.

  • In industrial animal agriculture, animals are supplemented with B12 โ€” so when people eat animals, theyโ€™re actually consuming artificial B12 indirectly.

  • In a plant-based system, we skip the middle animal and take B12 directly.

  • A small amount is needed, but itโ€™s vital to take it consistently โ€” especially for pregnant people, children, and elders.

๐ŸŒฑ Veganism must be healthy to be sustainable. That means B12 must be accessible.

๐Ÿ”น The Problem in East Africa

In many parts of East Africa:

  • B12 is unavailable in local shops and pharmacies

  • There is a lack of awareness even among health professionals

  • Many vegans are not supplementing at all, putting their health at risk
