Recognizing Real Compassion — Exposing the Fakes

In East Africa, countless animals suffer — but some find refuge in the care of people who treat them not as property, but as lives worth protecting. Sadly, not all who claim to run shelters are genuine. Scam shelters are on the rise, exploiting good intentions and draining precious resources meant to protect animals.

That’s why the East African Vegan Society (EAVS) is launching a Shelter Certification Program — to celebrate real sanctuaries and warn against the frauds.

🔹 Why We Certify

  • To protect donors and volunteers from scams

  • To amplify true sanctuaries and help them thrive

  • To educate the public on what real animal protection looks like

  • To create a network of ethical, plant-based shelters committed to life, not profit

Our certified shelters follow strict vegan principles. No breeding. No sales. No slaughter. Just respect, healing, and dignity.

Certified Shelter Spotlight: Stanley Gama Sanctuary (Kenya)

🐾 A Beacon of Resilience and Compassion

The Stanley Gama Sanctuary was born from a crisis — the devastating 2022 drought in Kenya’s Amboseli region. As pastoralist families lost livestock and livelihoods, many were forced to sell animals into slaughter.

But Stanley made a radical choice: instead of repeating the cycle, he broke it.

He founded a sanctuary where animals are never used again — not for milk, not for meat, not for anything. Just respected and allowed to live.

Today, the sanctuary is home to:

  • 🐶 1 rescued dog and 🐱 1 cat

  • 🐐 66 goats and sheep rescued from slaughter

  • 🐄 34 cows, saved and thriving

Animals live freely, naturally — with no interference in their reproduction, and no expectations other than love.

💔 The sanctuary is facing urgent challenges — including a Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD) outbreak — and is asking for help.
